The Biggest Regret Men Have Is...
Tuesday 02-21-2012 6:08pm ET

We all have regrets...after all, we're all human. What do you think men regret the most?

Not buying a lottery ticket when the jackpot is humongous? Eating/drinking too much? Engaging in unhealthy vices or addictions? Those are things lots of guys regret.

What about a work related regret? Maybe you "settled" on a job or career for "practical" reasons? You didn't go after your dream?

All of these represent huge regrets. But the BIGGEST regret that men have...according to 56% of the men polled is...

LETTING THE LOVE OF THEIR LIFE GET AWAY.

Guys realize after a certain point that, besides your health, love really IS the most important thing. Perhaps they "settled" in the wrong relationship. Or maybe they had the right relationship, but let it get away. The thought that they HAD "The One", and lost her. THAT, apparently, is what keeps most guys awake, and that feeling could last for years and years.

This is good food for thought. It all comes down to appreciating what you've got. Having an attitude of gratitude works in all areas of your life, especially when it comes to that special someone. If you've got someone good in your life, make sure thay know how much you appreciate them! Start today!

Farewell, "Kid"
Friday 02-17-2012 8:03pm ET

It's that time of year...football is done, and the sound of "play ball" is right around the corner as Major League Baseball gets ready for Spring Training. Ah yes, baseball...America's "National Pastime"...the smell of freshly cut grass, hot dogs, and the sweet sound of the bat hitting the ball. A time of renewal and fresh starts.

This spring, however, begins on a somber note, as baseball mourns the passing of a legend...one of the best catchers to ever play the game...Hall of Famer Gary Carter. He played 19 seasons in the major leagues, mostly with the Montreal Expos and the New York Mets. They called him "Kid" because of his youthful exhuberance. He became a leader with Montreal, and brought those skills over to the Mets in 1985. He was ready for the big stage, and NY embraced him.

He was the final piece of the championship puzzle for the Mets, who went on to win the 1986 World Series. It was Carter's single with two outs, nobody on, and the Mets possibly one pitch away from elimination in Game 6, that started arguably the most incredible and memorable comeback in World Series history. Three batters later, Mookie Wilson's groundball under Bill Buckner's legs gave the Mets the win, and it remains one of the most talked about moments in baseball history. Carter said that he felt very comfortable at the plate and "just knew" that he was NOT going to make the final out of the World Series. The Mets then went on to win a thrilling Game 7 to win the Championship.

Carter's enthusiasm and intensity were a great match for the New York stage. The fans knew it, too, and would demand a "curtain call" everytime he hit a homerun. Carter loved the spotlight and was all too willing to oblige. This didn't always sit well with the opposition. Many felt he always "played to the camera", and felt his outward displays of emotions were arrogant. No question he brought swagger to the Mets, who dominated that 1986 season. But hey...nobody's perfect. It's kind of funny though...his "arrogant" celebrations are relatively TAME compared to some of the in-your-face trash talking that has become so prevalent in sports today.

Carter played the game with intensity, but above all, he truly had FUN doing it. It was very rare to see the man they called "Kid" without a smile on his face. He always took time to sign autographs for little kids, and big kids, alike! He always gave 110%, and left everything he had on the field.

Those same characteristics served him well in retirement, too. He was an announcer with the Florida Marlins in the mid 90's. He coached the minor leagues, and the past two seasons coached at Palm Beach Atlantic University. Always giving...whether to his ballclubs, or to charity, and always with a smile. Even when his health took a turn for the worse, he showed up for Palm Beach Atlantic's home opener as recently as a couple of weeks ago, encouraging his boys on. With that million dollar smile. Sadly, he lost his battle with brain cancer on Thursday, February 16th.

Hopefully the Mets will retire his number 8...something that should have been done already, while he was still around to enjoy it. His passing is a huge loss for the Mets organization, baseball, Palm Beach County, and the world. Looking back at his life, we now see he did things the right way...playing hard, playing all-out, playing clean, loving his family, giving to those in need... and always doing it all with that unforgettable smile.

We could all learn a lot from Gary Carter. He certainly got the most out of his 57 years, and made the world a better place. Having said that, let me wrap up by saying: Here's lookin' at YOU, "Kid"... you will be remembered always.
